Universe City Lives! and Readers Allowed Theatre present “The Investigation A Search for Truth in Ten Acts,” based on “The Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Election,” by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Robert Schenkkan. The performance will be presented at the Argo House, in the Gallery, 529 25th Street, Ogden , Monday, 12 August 2019, 7:30 pm. This is a free performance, open to the public. Children will not find this interesting. Seating is limited.

On June 24, 2019, Law Works hosted a live play based on the Mueller Report called “The Investigation: A Search for the Truth in 10 Acts.” It was the beginning of a movement to bring the Mueller Report to life and into communities across the Nation. Now it is coming to Ogden.

In this case, Readers Theatre is presented with no costuming, scenery, or special effects. More than a dozen performers will be reading the parts of 26 characters, with their words taken directly from the original two-volume Mueller Report issued to much attention this spring. The script has been reduced to a 70-minute performance of key scenes from the report, featuring Trump, Mueller, and a cast of real characters from our current administration.

1. The Investigation was written by Robert Schenkkan, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning screenwriter and playwright.

2. Law Works engages bipartisan voices and educates the public on the importance of the rule of law, the role of the special counsel in the justice system, and the integrity of our judicial institutions. More at https://lawworksaction.org/

3. Readers Allowed is a collection of local artists and community members bringing this script to the Argo House. The group is organized by Caril Jennings

4. Universe City Lives! is the on-the-road revival of Universe City, an art center on Washington Boulevard, 2004-2011.

Caril Jennings and current co-conspirators, have formed changeable readers theatre companies, this year operating as Readers Allowed. They have presented a variety of readers theatre productions including:

WSU Greek Readers Theatre: updating all of Aristophanes’ existing 2500 year old plays

Readers Aloud and Women’s Voices:

-organized on each occasion to partner with campus and community topics

-original scripts for WSU Weber Reads including “Beowulf,” “Frankenstein”

-original works by local artists including Dian Woodhouse, Kent Winward,

-“Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl: Written by Herself,” by Angela Choberka

-“The People Speak” by Howard Zinn

Many of these performances originated at or were presented at Universe City, a downtown family art center (2004-2011), or on the Weber State University campuses.

Universe City Lives! is a continuation of the UC mission of sharing the Arts and Humanities in our own community. It is an on-the-road production, popping up when the time is right, and a free public venue is available. UC Lives! has presented at least two Arts and Humanities events a year since the downtown address closed in 2011. All have been hosted by public venues throughout the community including Union Station and Weber State University.
